How to Continue my Marital Therapy Education in Arkansas

If you have started your education for becoming a marital therapist in another state it can be confusing and complicated trying to understand how to get started again. This can depend on where you were in your education when you moved. Each state has their own requirements when it comes to what you must complete before you can become a marital therapist.

Education is the first and possibly most important step of becoming a marital therapist. When you move it can be difficult to figure out what to do next. If you have already completed your bachelor’s degree then you can continue your education in Arkansas by applying for graduate schools. This would have you back on your way to becoming a marital therapist.

If you haven’t completed your bachelor’s degree you will need to apply to a school where you can finish that before you attend a graduate school.

One of the best things that you can do to help yourself before you move is to ensure you have all the records on the work that you’ve already completed. This will help you when it comes time to apply to a new school. They will likely need sealed transcripts, but even your personal records can help get the process started.

Regardless of where you are in your education level you can benefit by researching what the state requirements are. You will be required to have at least your master’s degree, and complete a specific amount of hands on style training. This training is often supervised by someone who is already a practicing marital therapist. In some cases this training may be a portion of your post graduate work, however in others it will be work you complete after you get your degree.

After you have completed the amount of training required by the state you can apply for your license to become a marital therapist. This will include taking a test to prove your knowledge.  Also make sure that you are keeping track of all your records. Often when you are applying for your license they will need information that can only be found in these records. Among them are things like the types of classes you took, when you completed your degree, and more.

When your license has been approved by the board you will be ready to practice as a marital therapist. Some of the choices you have for working as a marital therapist are, working in a private office, working at a mental facility, or working at a group practice. These are just a few of the options you will have. Working in a group practice would allow you to work in an office with other therapists. Choosing to become a marital therapist is a rewarding career. You will be there to help couples through the most difficult times in their relationship. They will turn to you to help sort through their problems, and learn to communicate more effectively with one another.
